Mini Milk Carton Lamp

Number of View: 3736

I told Emily that I would make a Chinese paper lantern template before Chinese New Year (tomorrow). But, I don’t have it yet. Sorry Em! In the mean time, I made a lantern with Stampin’ Up! Mini Milk Carton Bigz L Die. =)

I cut one piece with purple cardstock and one piece with clear plastic sheet.

Trim the Milk Carton die cut to make the box.

I’ve been looking for the perfect adhesive for plastic sheets, and so far Sinbad Glue has been working out for me. It’s bit smelly (but not worse than Zip Dry). But, it is non-toxic. It bonds almost instantly and clearly. Dries quicker than hot glue!

Using the left over body piece from purple cardstock, make the base. Use circle punch to cut the bottom.

With a thick rope twine, make a knot, and put it through the lid. I used Zip Dry glue and some clips (while the glue dries) to secure it together. NOTE: Score lids (to make triangle shapes) before assembling like I did with Milk Carton Hexagon boxes.

Decorate.

It would look pretty filled with candies, too.

Play-Doh Santa’s Sleigh

Number of View: 3021

Hi everybody!

I was not planning on making Christmas goodies for my kids preschool this year. But, I felt guilty after seeing my friend, Eva’s goodie bags that she made for her kids.

So I ended up making them with my son’s help.

Do you like my mini Play-Doh Santa’s Sleigh with candy canes?

26 sleighs ready to deliver holiday cheers!

During Halloween season, Costco sold 80 mini Play-Dohs for $10, so I stocked up on those.

Cut strips of thin red papers to cover the Play-Dohs. I don’t recommend using cardstock papers as it’s much thicker and unless you use a really strong adhesive, the paper doesn’t stick for a long time.

Attach the black ribbon around the Play-Doh.

When I need to glue a bunch of stuff with fabric/craft glue, I like to squeeze it on a piece of paper (Or a wax paper that comes with stickers), dab the embellishments on it and attach it to whatever.

Here, I dab the ribbon end to the glue, position it on the Play-Doh, slid to the right to stick the other end of the ribbon.

Like this. =)

For Santa’s belt buckles, I used a border punch and scissors to cut it out. I LOVE 7gypsies products, but this punch was not that well made. It broke the first time I used and I had to get a replacement.

I used clear dimensional glue to attach the buckles to the belt.

Let it dry, let it dry, let it dry~

These are to put on top of Play-Doh’s, bases for pine cone Christmas trees and snowmen.

It’s easier to use fabric/craft glue to attach two felt pieces together, but I had to use up the hot glue gun to change the regular refill to a glittery stick.

My son assembling snowmen with pom-poms.

Put hot glues around the pine cones, and sprinkled some tiny bead glitters.

BAD IDEA to use hot glue to attach glitters. It didn’t stick well so I ended up putting two coats of clear glue on top of it.

I shook the glitter off as much as possible, so I hope the parents won’t get annoyed by these. It’s everywhere in my crafting room and I’m still cleaning it. But, Kyle had so much fun putting it, the mess was so worth it. I think. Nah~

Attached the pine cone Christmas trees and snowmen on the Play-Dohs with a hot glue gun.

Dimensional Pearls for snow baby’s eyes and nose.

Smooch for the mouths.

Next year, I shall put hats and scarves.

Naughty looking snow babies.

Cotton stuffing around the trees.

I used Matchbox Stampin’ Up! Bigz Xl Die for sleigh seats.

Filled the boxes/drawers with peppermint candies.

Bells and name tags for drawer handles.

For sleigh sides, I used Top Note Stampin’ Up! Bigz Die. Cut it in half.

I was inspired by Patti. She made an Elf shoe card using the Top Note and I thought it would be perfect for the sleighs.

I drew a half heart shape on the inside of the cut pieces. and cut it with scissors.

Attach it to the sides of match boxes.

3-D Zots dot glues to attach candy canes for sleigh bottoms.

Have a wonderful~ Christmas!

Foam Mounted Photos

Can you believe it? It’s December already. My husband has been saving up money for artificial Christmas tree, but I was against getting one. Our house is small and cluttered as it is, I didn’t want to add more things it. But, we got one this weekend and I actually like it. Makes me happy to see all the Christmas lights and decoration around the house.

Back in September, I took photos of my kids at home, printed on 8×12, mounted on foam boards, and put it on the mantel. I loved it. I got lots of compliments. I wanted to do it again as a part of Christmas decoration.

Six photos printed on 12×18. $3 per print at Costco. I printed out too many photos for my fireplace.
Gloss finish. I love Matt or Lustre finish, but I think gloss finish looks better for face close up.

I might be the only scrapbooker who doesn’t care about acid free products *gasp*, but I saw this Elmer’s Acid Free Foam Board at Michael’s, so I bought this instead of regular ones.

It seemed like Acid Free Foam Boards cut cleaner than the regular ones. (Top: regular, bottom: acid free)

I use Mac Tac Double-Sided Adhesive mounting sheet for making albums and mounting photos. A salesperson from a local art supply store told me that this is what they use for framing and the edges don’t peel off overtime.

Attach the double-sided adhesive sheet to the back of the photo. I use both brayer and scraper (you can use credit cards) to smooth out the surface.
Cut the excess adhesive sheet.
Mount it to the foam board.

I was too lazy to hang it on the wall. Hehe. But, it’s easier to take down the photos or re-arrange it anyway my family like just putting it on the shelf.

It costed me about $7 per frame. Inexpensive DIY photo display!

Harvest Meal

Number of View: 470

I’ve been busy working on the Thanksgiving table decoration for my kids school. After all, I have a reputation to uphold. Hehe.

Some were real, some were fake. Artificial fall veggies/plants were put together using hot glue gun.

I wanted to add characters from children’s books on this train theme Thanksgiving meal decoration.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Indians, Little Orange Riding Hood Gourd, and Rapunzel Pumpkin.

Little Engine That Could.

Pine Cone Turkey Trains, and Pom Pom Pumpkins with train tracks.

“Some Turkey” spider web.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Harvest Meal – Some Turkey

There is a fireplace where we had the Harvest Meal at school. I was brainstorming for a decoration idea for the fireplace, and thought about Charlotte’s Web book that Kyle loved. On the book, a spider writes “Some Pig” on her web. Since it was for a Thanksgiving party, I thought “turkey” would be more fun.

I started to weave the web using hot glue gun on heat resistant mats. Kyle wanted to try. My hands felt weak from all the crafting, so I was happy that he wanted to help. Hot glue gun and no shirt on…

I added Ranger Stickles Glitter Glue on the letters.

Turkey was from another mom from school.

Felt crafted the orange spider.

I was surprised how well the double-sided tape hold the weight.
