silhouette tile

I’ve been thinking about what to give to my kids teachers for the end of the school year gift for a long time. I thought about making silhouette images of teachers etched on glass frames or vinyl on glass frames. But, that would take too long to make and I wanted something simpler.
I liked the style from ModernBirdStudios and thought about using woods. But, didn’t feel like asking anybody to cut the woods. Thought about using stretched canvas, but I wanted to save this for a future project.
Well, I remembered seeing a tutorial from theHybridChick.com on how to use Modge Podge to transfer images onto tile, and decided to use the tiles.

I liked this side profile photo of my kids.
I used this tutorial for creating two tone silhouette in Photoshop.

I made this one to test. But, for the actual gifts, I plan to use teachers photos. I hope I have all their photos. Heehee.
The tutorial said to use a laser printer, but I did not listen. I only have a black and white laser printer and really wanted to use brown color. So I tried the technique TWICE using images printed on my ink jet printer, and it did NOT work.
So, I tried the b/w laser printer and it worked like a charm (gray color). The ink scratched off from the tile when I was rubbing the transfer paper off (regular white printer paper). But, when I cleaned the title again the next day, the ink stayed on the tile. This technique will work on stretched canvas as well.

It doesn’t show on the photo, but I added clear liquid glue (Crystal Lacquer) over the image. It looks like embossed and I love it.
So if you haven’t decided on what to give to teachers, why not try this? =)

Hello!!!
I’m participating Paper Works Co. Blog Hop today. =)
When I was working on the Graduation Cap Box template, I thought about using it to make a space ship. Here, I used the small lid template and put the box upside down.

The other day, Sheena sent me these cute stamps! Isn’t she generous or what! And I had to play with them for this blog hop. Thank you, Sheena!
I used Copic markers to color the images.

Stamp: Mikey the Monkey

Stamp: Rocko Tinheart

Put buttons together with Zots dot adhesive to make the legs.

If you came to my blog from Cris’s blog, you have come to the right place. If you just started on this hop, please start at the Paper Works Co. main blog.

BTW, I changed my blog theme. I’ve been meaning to change it for a while, but couldn’t find the layout that I liked. I still need to work on my blog header graphic, but I liked Savitri’s blog, I wanted to use the WordPress theme that she is using. =)
Thank you and see you tomorrow!

Pretty pretty fabric flowers! The best part, I didn’t make it. It’s digital embellishments that I printed out and hand cut.

I put a gift card inside the box using my Almost Square Bag template. The gift card was a wee bit bigger then the template, so I made the top arch instead of concave. I like it this way, too.

Layers and layers of fake fabric paper flowers (heehee), attached with 3-d foam adhesive.

Oh yeah, so I made the flower one for a girl and this horsey one for a boy. They are twins and had their 5th birthday party this past weekend. I know it doesn’t look like the typical children designs, but the birthday boy loves animals, and I’m sure the girl loves flowers, too. Their mom (my friend), called me after the party to tell me how wonderful these gift card holders were. I personally loved how it turned out, so I was happy.

I placed a removable adhesive dot behind the frame to keep it close. =)
