Scrappy Sunday – mini album

I’m hosting the Paper Craft Planet’s Scrappy Sunday.

Here’s my sketch.

Simple, huh~? The sketch was inspired by MK-Design’s Calendar Set 2010. Also used the calendar from the set.

This is my first time creating a template in Photoshop. And you can download the file here: sb022810sketch (Just the sketch, not the calendar)

And this is my digital layout created in the Photoshop.

And one digital sketch led me to create this hybrid album. I printed the calendar on Kraft cardstock. Printed the photos separately on a photo paper. Cut, and glued on the album pages.

This 4×4 mini album was created similar to the shadow book I made last summer (2nd example).

Looks good even without any photos. =)
I can’t believe it! I actually finished (almost) an album for this year!

This one is for my friend.

Bombshell Blog Hop

Heeheehee. I bet you never expected me to use such a wild image for my project. Heehee. It’s “Man’s Ruin” stamp set from Bombshell. My friend, Stephanie sent me the stamped image. And with her encouragement, I’m playing February Bombshell Blog Hop: Mama Said Knock You Out! It’s to use the punches or diecuts on the creation.

I used the paislee Nestability die to cut the girl image. Colored with colored pencils and ordorless mineral spirits. And used handheld circle and border punches on the back. It’s a gift card holder.

All supplies from the February Taylored Expressions Key Ingredients. And the pink and black color scheme was inspired by TE’s Subscriber Challenge: Choose a pop of color.

Since Stephanie’s blog name is “Pink Star Creations“, I thought pink would be the perfect pop color on this project.

And look at this! I won this January Bombshell goodies by leaving a comment on Steph’s blog when she did January hop.

Woodland Whisper – a camping trailer

Isn’t this cute or what! Heehee. I made another vehicle with Kelleigh’s Mini Mailbox template (small size). It’s a camping trailer.

Initially, I was going to make a house, but these woodland animals inspired me to make a camping trailer instead.

Where did these animals come from?

It’s a brand new collaboration digital kit, “Woodland Whisper“ by Danielle Young Designs and Kitty Designs.

A large white brad for the window.

I used a binder clip for the connector(?)

Used the frosted plastic for the windows.

Hmm… I guess I better make a truck to go with this. =)

I don’t know about you, but I love to look at other people’s crafting rooms and how they take photos of their creations. I’m still a total amateur photographer who likes to shoot in Auto mode. But, Lisa Spangler’s recent blog post (Tutorial: Photo backgrounds for crafty projects!) made me wanna share how I do mine. I still have sooo much to learn and improve my photo skill!

Above photo is my main crafting area.

I use my husband’s camera, Canon EOS 30D with EFS 17-55mm lense. Normally, I take my photos at night. For tutorials, I just turn two desk lamps. And to take the final project, I turn my flash on (Canon Speedlite 430EX. Yeah, camera is my hubby’s but the flash is mine =). I know everybody tells you to turn the flash off, but I like it on. I don’t like the built-in flash light as I can’t control the direction.

Last year, I made my husband install this cork bulletin board right in front of my desk. I wanted to use it to put stuff like sketch or note for me to reference to while I craft. He does a lot of handy man work for me not because he values my crafting skill, but because I complain about his parents. Bigger the complain, bigger the return. Poor guy~ heehee. He would still do things for me regardless of my complaints, but things just get done faster if I let him know how wonderful his wife is who would put up with his parents. Yeah…

I used to cover up the wall to shoot projects, but I got to like the corky background look on the photo.

If I don’t feel lazy, I put patterned papers on the bottom.

I made this panda and friends cake last summer.

Sometimes I like the plain white surface even when I don’t feel lazy.

I made this cash envelope clutch for theHybridChick blog tutorial. It’s little bit different from the IOU clutch that I made last month.

Almost always I edit my photos on Adobe Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS3.

i love hybrid

When I started stamping, I was laughing at the crafters who were making boxes, and bags. Didn’t understand why they wasted their time and papers on those. Hehehe. And look at me. I do a lot of 3-d projects. I can’t help it. When I see beautiful stamps, and craft supplies, I feel the need to make it into houses, boxes, bags… someting puffy. It’s all Kelleigh’s fault. Hehe. If I didn’t discover her wonderful templates to play with for my guest design work for the Purple Onion Design stamps, I wouldn’t be writing this post. Heehee.

I had so much digital scrapbook kits, but didn’t really use them to create hybrid (combining traditional and digital elements) projects. But, I learned a lot from Kelleigh’s tutorials (also on theHybridChick blog) and now I am very comfortable making hybrid stuff. I am a hybrid girl!

you don’t bring me flowers anymore

The last time my hubby gave me flowers on Valentine’s Day was four years ago. It was delievered by mail. Urmm… we live together so don’t know why he didn’t bring it in person, heehee. I was very surprised as I never received flowers by mail before.

It was tulips. His mother’s favorite flower, not mine. What was he thinking! Ugh! Heehee.

And I thought he was being cheap for not getting me the roses. He said the tulips costed as much. So I got mad that he spent too much money on the flowers that will wither. No wonder he doesn’t bring me flowers anymore. Hehe.

I was planning on making these flowers for a while, and finally was motivated to make it after seeing Sassafras’ challenge to create something for someone you love.

I love my kids the most, but if I didn’t love my husband first, they would not be here. So here it is… Fake flowers for the love of my life! =)

PAPERS: Sunshine Lollipops and Hog Heaven from Sassafras;

Flowers were made almost the same way as the “snow flowers” I made last year. Except I used a smaller scallop circle punch. I was going to use a plain circle punch, but I was inspired by Sinead’s Uptown Citrus Flowers.
Little blue dot is where I made a hole to put the wire through.

Roll it tight starting from the outside.

Then squash it down. It’ll give the flower some distressed look.

Then, pull the center part up. Looks like a little cobra. =)

Make some stamen using beads and flower wires.

Insert the wire through the flower. Remember the blue dot?

Put a little dab of glue on the bottom/center of the flower.

Wrap it around the wire.

I used bamboo skewer and wrapped the wires around.

Wouldn’t this look nice as a table centerpiece? =)

I made it for my husband but since he doesn’t bring me flowers anymore, I’m going to keep it. Heehee.

wild wild west wagon – Kelleigh Ratzlaff Blog Hop

Hello~~~!!! Welcome to my blog. I’m participating Kelleigh’s Blog Hop today using her templates, Mini Mailbox (NEW product this week!) and the Matchbox Sets.

Kelleigh’s templates are very versatile. I had fun putting two different templates together to create this cute stuff =). My son loves vehicles, so I tend to find a way to add wheels to my creations.

One of my new year’s resolutions was to keep the house clean. But it seems like I get the project ideas from my cluttered home. I was looking at my kids’ Play-Doh stuff, and thought the mini Play-Doh lids would make some cool wheels for a vehicle. And the Mailbox Template kinda looked like a western wagon, you know =). I don’t think I should ever clean the house! This mess is my muse! Heehee. If only my hubby could understand the importance of keeping the disorganized house! Heehee.

Using the Big Shot, die cut the Sizzix daisy flowers out.
Puch it out with a circle punch (1 3/4″).

Attach the cut out flowers to the Play-Doh lid (I used Glossy Accents).
Make a whole in the center using an Instant Setter (3/16″).

Put a brad through the hole. Wrap it around one side of a cotton swab. I used the Scotch tape to secure the brad and the cotton swab together. But, I think I’ll use something more strong next time. Maybe use the wire first then wrap it with the Scotch tape.

Score and fold cardstock paper to make a room for the cotton swab. Again, used the Scotch tape to attach the paper to the bottom of the Matchbox. The wheels turn!
